There is a goal behind every click

People do not open a system to use its forms and tables. They want to finish a task. Observing the real sequence of work, interruptions and shortcuts helps design move beyond an organisation’s internal structure and align with the user’s goals.

Design the overlooked states

A screen is not complete when only the happy path is designed. Empty data, limited access, weak connections and invalid input are also part of the experience. Clear language and an obvious next step matter especially in these moments.

Test with a concrete task

Instead of asking for a general opinion about appearance, ask someone to complete a realistic task. Pauses, misinterpretations and the paths they choose provide clues for improving the design. A prototype needs enough realism to make these behaviours observable.
